AI has had a massive impact on every part of our lives, but mainly on how we consume large data sets easily. The observability world is based on collecting enormous amounts of data and consuming it by observing dashboards built on monitoring tools. Most of the o11y tasks like writing complex queries, creating dashboards & defining alerts, have been done much in the same way for the last decade & AI models are well-positioned to disrupt this modus operandi.

Software complexity makes it harder for teams to rapidly identify and resolve issues. IT service management has evolved from an afterthought to a central part of DevOps. Microservices architectures are prone to delay or missed identification of such concerns. Monitoring mechanisms need to keep up with these complex infrastructures. Maintaining reliability and performance while harnessing this complexity requires a considered, data-driven approach.

Over the past decade, the cloud computing landscape has transformed remarkably, evolving from a nascent technology into a fundamental component of modern digital infrastructure. As the technology has evolved, so too has the need to develop complex cost optimization strategies. A decade ago, businesses grappled with the complexities of brand-new cloud services, often facing challenges in managing costs due to opaque pricing models and a limited understanding of cloud economics.

While many of us have already heard of Kubernetes, or may even be leveraging it within our technology stacks, it’s still important to remember that the platform is undergoing massive adoption and evolvement. Due to its relative infancy, Kubernetes is ripe to allow for integrating new technologies, like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). As an open-source platform, Kubernetes orchestrates containerized applications, ensuring they run efficiently and resiliently.

I had the pleasure to be invited by Canonical’s AI/ML Product Manager, Andreea Munteanu, to one of the recent episodes of the Canonical AI/ML podcast.
