In the decades gone by, the financial sector was seen as the pinnacle of software innovation. Though the myriad of firms constantly disrupting every sector and the rise of FAANG [Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Google] has shifted public perception of innovation to high tech firms. Core to innovation for any firm are software engineers/developers. Though there might be a stigma that the financial services sector moves slower and has a poorer developer experience or DX than other high tech industries. With the huge impact that breaking something in the financial markets have, safety is always top of mind.
Improving efficiency and the innovation flywheel can boil down to developer experience. If your internal customers e.g the developers are happy they can make your external customers happy. As competition is fierce for talent and systems continue to grow more complex and distributed, ensuring that developers are ramped quickly and can start iterating on their ideas are crucial.
