Rancher 1.6, with Cattle as the orchestrator, is a widely adopted platform among both the open-source and enterprise communities. With the release of Rancher 2.0, we have shifted from a Cattle to Kubernetes-based orchestration platform. Due to large technology differences between the two platforms, there is no straightforward upgrade path available. Thus Rancher 1.6 users are faced with challenges in transitioning their applications to 2.0, and the recently released 2.1.
