We had a fantastic time at the Kafka Summit in London this year. It was so great to be meeting everyone face to face again after such a long break. It was interesting to see how people had progressed with their Kafka implementations. At the 2019 event people were just getting started trying out Kafka in small test environments but no one had enough production experience to know understand their needs for management at scale and production support.
Since the term Internet of Things (IoT) was first coined in 1999, the market has experienced vast growth and maturity, evolving rapidly – and it is showing no sign of slowing down. According to Omdia, the number of global satellite IoT connections is set to continue growing at a compound annual growth rate of 25% for the foreseeable future.
A successful hybrid cloud architecture is one that addresses how to build, deploy, manage and connect a hybrid mix of applications across a hybrid infrastructure environment. These applications will span multiple infrastructure footprints—across cloud providers and customer datacenters and multiple Kubernetes clusters, as well as systems that run on vendor management systems (VMSs), bare metal and edge environments.
We noticed this new announcement for Kafka users which may be worth looking into: “Instaclustr is pleased to announce the immediate availability of a new Kafka add-on, Karapace Schema Registry, in public preview, on our managed platform. This follows our earlier announcement of Karapace as part of our comprehensive Apache Kafka support solutions in mid March.
I was working on something recently where I had to upgrade various components in the tooling. And I was getting more and more annoyed that the upgrades broke my existing programs and scripts. None of that was MQ’s fault and I’ll write more about the project once it’s available alongside the newly-announced MQ 9.3. But it got me thinking about the efforts we’ve made to keep MQ application compatibility across its lifetime.
Embracing the cloud is not just a case of improving infrastructure, experts believe, but also a way to drive transformation. Many of the world’s largest financial exchanges are transforming the way they run global capital markets through the adoption of cloud computing technologies. In November, financial derivatives exchange CME Group entered a 10-year partnership with Google that will move CME’s IT infrastructure and markets to the cloud.
Long Covid, with its constellation of symptoms, is proving a challenging moving target for researchers trying to conduct large studies of the syndrome. As they take aim, they’re debating how to responsibly use growing piles of real-world data — drawing from the full experiences of long Covid patients, not just their participation in stewarded clinical trials.
We are presently living in an age of “artificial intelligence” — but not how the companies selling “AI” would have you believe.
The Internet of Things needs to be part of the overall corporate information security policy to prevent adversaries from using these devices as an entry point. There are several reasons why it’s critical for organizations to defend their IoT attack surface, most importantly being that IoT devices are powerful systems containing compute, storage, and networking that threat actors view as the easiest way to breach an organization or enable exploits.
