The Future Trends of Big Data, Analytics and Cloud Adoption in 2021
As corporate big data leaders look to improve data quality, turn around some of their big data projects in 2021, and optimize and improve application and cluster performance to meet business objectives, big data and analytics remain essential resources for companies to survive in a highly competitive big data environment.

As you help your organization plan for the future and prepare for where big data is going in 2021, join presenter, Pepperdata Field Engineer, Kirk Lewis for this webinar where he will discuss the following:
- How cloud technology will make big data more accessible
- How cloud data will shape customer experiences
- Kubernetes
- Simplicity (one tool for each job)
- Complexity (several tools)
- Cost control (managing data and cloud sprawl)
More on the episode:
We've got a big topic you know, Where is Big Data going in 2021? And Pepperdata is a big data performance company. We've got a particular view into this world because our software runs on probably about 50,000 big data nodes around the world. So, we've got to keep a keen eye on where things are headed so that we can serve our customer base, and also serve the broader market as it changes. So, we've got to change with it. That's why we take a look at these things on a pretty regular basis. So, our topics for today are where is big data going and how can you help your organization successfully navigate the changes that are underway.
One of the things that we know is we'll see a lot of this year's changes. The events of 2020 put a spin on people's plans that they didn't expect, so in 2021 we expect people to start to sort of shake off, you know, the events of 2020 and get a move on again. So, we'll take a look at what we expect to see there. The deeper agenda here is where we're going in 2021 or where's big data going in 2021. Cloud adoption is going to mean more big data. When we think of big data as traditionally Hadoop, you know, and Friends, but we'll get into some thoughts here about why we think this means more big data.
And then, the customer experience is going to shape cloud adoption. We've seen people's plans and their architectures and the technologies that are shaping up. And there's a different approach where it used to be, you know, there'd be technology and then you'd figure out how you use it. Now, the cloud is really presenting a different question: what do you want your customer experience to be? So, that's where we say you know customer experience is going to shape cloud adoption. And Kubernetes is set to take center stage in 2021.
The adoption curve that we had for Hadoop is on the, I won't say downside, but you're not seeing much more new Hadoop these days. It’s, you know, Kubernetes as a foundational technology in people's data architectures and their data workflows. As well as other large-scale computing projects, even beyond just big data. So, we’ll certainly see Kubernetes taking center stage this year. We'll get into that a little in a little bit more detail in some subsequent slides. And then, the second, you know, the big heading here is how can you successfully navigate these changes?
So, as things change, and you know, the reason why you attend a webinar like this one is because you want to know what's happening. You want to be able to navigate what's going on and you want to be successful as things change. You don't want to be the guy who's the MapReduce expert in the world of Spark. So that you can see what's happening here, as it changes throughout the broader landscape, we're going to give you a look at, you know, how do you navigate these things? And there are particular things that we want to draw attention to.
So, that first bullet of even smart choices can lead to bad outcomes. I'll give you some examples and insights into the way that cloud is changing the way people make decisions, and the way that it is changing what you end up drawing up as a plan, and then executing. And sometimes those things don't look the same. So, you have a bunch of smart decisions that can still lead to bad outcomes.
And that is a particular symptom of the choices that you have in the cloud. To follow on from there, the sprawl and complexity, and cost controls are going to be constant challenges....
