AppDynamics Unveils AppDynamics for Cisco ACI, Bringing Together Industry Leaders in Application Intelligence and Software Defined Networking
San Francisco - January 23, 2019 - AppDynamics, a Cisco company and the leader in application intelligence, today unveiled AppDynamics for ACI, the only monitoring solution with end-to-end transaction tracing and correlated data models that pinpoint which constructs in the network are impacting application performance. Now network and application teams have a faster path to remediation and for the first time can understand how network policies impact application performance.
In the digital age, the application is the business - so any application downtime or latency results in lost revenue. In fact, according to the App Attention Index 53 percent of consumers have abandoned a website after one disappointing experience. However, finding the root cause of application outages is challenging in complex, modern environments that span public, private and multicloud data centers - especially when the issue is in the network.
When an application goes down application teams and network teams speak different languages, adding precious time to remediating costly issues. Application teams speak in nodes and tiers, while network teams speak in end points, end point groups, subnets and access control lists (ACL). While there are point solutions that do application monitoring and others that do network monitoring, they don’t provide information in context that other teams understand. These siloed tools lead to inefficient war rooms that make it incredibly difficult pinpoint and remediate the problem.
Introducing AppDynamics for Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI)
Today, AppDynamics is bringing together two industry leaders - it’s own application intelligence and Cisco ACI’s software defined networking solution (SDN) - to unlock business value by ensuring business-critical applications run flawlessly with integrated application and network level visibility. With AppDynamics for ACI, Cisco and AppDynamics provide an integrated view from the application code to the underlying network to deliver flawless performance and user experience.
“The running joke in IT is if there’s a problem that can’t be identified ‘it’s gotta be the network’” said Danny Winokur, chief product officer, AppDynamics. “Combining AppDynamics’ deep application insight with Cisco’s network expertise gives enterprises the fastest root cause analysis, reduced risk of unexpected application outages and greater trust across teams, leading to better customer experiences and business results.”
Only with AppDynamics for Cisco ACI are enterprises able to follow a transaction through the application and deep into the network. By correlating application and network data models, app and network teams have the fastest path to remediation by pinpointing exactly which constructs in the network are impacting application performance. With AppDynamics’ for Cisco ACI, application and network teams benefit from:
Fastest root cause analysis - AppDynamics for ACI empowers operation teams to find the root cause of incidents in minutes, from the application to the network. Teams can now spend time fixing issues instead of endless hours searching for the problem. When the network is at fault, teams can quickly drill down from the application symptoms to the underlying network endpoints to remediate the problem and restore access with minimal disruption to the end user.
Reduced risk of unexpected application outages - When NetOps make any change in the network configuration through APIC, they can now see the exact impact that change in policy has on application performance, providing critical visibility to avoid unexpected slowdowns. This is only possible because NetOps team can now directly see how their changes impact application performance without leaving ACI.
Comments on the news
“A common cause of slow to resolve application outages is poor cross-team collaboration between application, infrastructure and NetOps teams who are often trying to solve the same problem from different data sets,” said Zeus Kerravala, ZK Research. “With its ACI integration, AppDynamics and Cisco are breaking down these silos through a shared language that can help teams resolve application issues faster.”
“Many monitoring tools can alert customers when an app is down but doesn’t tell them where the issue lives, leaving app ops and net ops teams to waste hours of time troubleshooting,” said Mateja Jovanovic, CTO at Logicalis and a Cisco Champion. “With AppDynamics for ACI, we can help our customers' ops teams improve their cross team collaboration, saving their business countless dollars and lost end users with cross-stack issue identification. Now we can put them in a position to remediate application performance issues quickly and keep loyal customers happy.”
AppDynamics for ACI is available today with an Advanced APM license. Visibility of application node health within ACI is available as a beta.
