Netdata Network Topology: Live SNMP Discovery & Container Connection Maps
Netdata now builds live network topology maps directly in the agent: no scheduled scans, no stale picture the next morning. In this walkthrough, we cover both sides of the new Topology view:
Network device discovery (SNMP):
- Auto-discovering routers, switches, firewalls, and access points across your subnets
- How Netdata infers the map using LLDP, CDP, BGP, and OSPF, backed up by FDB and STP correlation for devices that don't advertise themselves
- Switching between confidence levels: All Devices, High-Confidence Inferred Map, and LLDP/CDP Managed Devices
- Drilling into a single device: ports, port neighbors, L3 subnet memberships, and OSPF neighbors.
Container & process network connections:
- Mapping live network connections between containers, processes, and services
- Grouping by container name, PID, or process name to see who's actually talking to whom
- This is part of Netdata's new NPM-class network monitoring — unified with full-stack observability, processed at the edge, with no separate console or per-flow billing.
