Cove Data Protection 2024.8 Release Notes

Cove Data Protection 2024.8 Release Notes

Aug 29, 2024

With version 24.8, the Cove Data Protection team is happy to announce general availability of a newly enhanced backup retention model designed to make long-term retention policy management easier and more transparent. We’re also introducing enhancements to the Cove UI, to Microsoft 365 protection, and to our Continuity features.

New Retention GA for on-premises devices
With this release, expected to be auto-deployed the week of August 26, it becomes easier and more efficient for Cove users to optimize backup retention for all customers. The menu section previously labeled “products” is now more clearly labeled as “retention policies.” Highlights of the new capabilities include:

Improved efficiency – centrally create, configure and manage retention across all customers, locations and devices
Flexibility – of retention for intra-daily, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly backup sessions via extended retention policies
Auto pruning – assign an enhanced retention policy to existing devices to auto-prune backup sessions, removing the need to manually delete unneeded archive sessions
Risk reduction – reduce compliance and data risks by removing old backup sessions that are no longer needed
Pre-configured or custom retention policy options to balance operational consistency with meeting specific customer needs.
Unified view – eliminate the need to maintain separate archiving schedules

Management console:
Ongoing UX optimization continues with this release, including a new, more intuitive design for the “add a device” window.

In addition, device properties can now be viewed in a side panel, rather than blocking the view of other devices.

Microsoft 365 enhancements
We have added transparency to user billing by showing the number of Teams users and owners that will be added to billing.

n addition, with this release we have reduced the number of backup errors shown to the customer by handling unexpected Microsoft behavior behind the scenes. Please read the official documentation for more detailed information.

Cove Continuity

One-time Restore Performance:
We’ve enhanced the restore process for devices with high-frequency backups and extended retention periods. Previously, restore times for these devices were occasionally below expectations. This issue has been resolved, and in some cases, the restore speed may now be significantly improved, potentially by several times.
ESXi Standby Image Verification:
We fixed an issue where the ESXi Standby Image verification tab did not always display Windows logs correctly.
