Essential Open Source Serverless Tools

The infrastructure that runs your applications can be nearly as complex as the applications it supports. This complexity generally scales with the resilience of the architecture of your application, the scaling needs, and any security concerns. Thus, successful infrastructure for traditional applications often relies on a comprehensive tooling suite that allows the infrastructure engineers to iterate upon and improve your application’s resources.

Three Keys to Automating Enterprise Network Management

Some of the most common challenges we hear about from customers are things that might be all too familiar to some of you. Things in IT have always changed rapidly, and it’s only picking up speed. The explosion of DevOps, cloud-centric architectures, and software-defined networking are making it increasingly difficult to keep monitoring and management tools in sync with the environment. This leads to another issue – management and individual teams lack visibility into the whole environment.

Predicting and Preventing Crime with Machine Learning - Part 2

In the first part of this blog series, we presented a use case on how machine learning can help to improve police operations. The use case demonstrates how operational planning can be optimized by means of machine learning techniques using a crime dataset of Chicago. However, this isn’t the only way to predict and prevent crime. Our next example takes us to London to have a look at what NCCGroup’s Paul McDonough and Shashank Raina have worked on.

Getting started with Elastic App Search on Elastic Cloud

With Elastic App Search, you can easily add rich, powerful search to your website, applications, or mobile apps. And now you can deploy directly from the Elastic Cloud. App Search is built on top of Elasticsearch, meaning that it’s highly scalable and fast. It comes out of the box with pre-tuned relevance, but gives you plenty of user-friendly options for fine-tuning results to customize the search experience.

Elastic App Search: Now available on Elasticsearch Service

We're excited to announce that Elastic App Search is now generally available on Elasticsearch Service. App Search is a ready-to-use, fully complete search solution with user-friendly relevance tuning and analytics built in. And starting today, you can deploy App Search instances with the click of a button right from the Elasticsearch Service dashboard. Now you can get all the tooling needed for a powerfully relevant search experience with the operational flexibility and scale of Elastic Cloud.

Don't Get Left Behind: Augmenting Decisions in DevOps With AIOps

DevOps is fast, glamorous and agile. It is key to keeping modern, fast-moving IT environments up and running. And it is no stranger to automation: DevOps has been relying on automation for many years now to ensure the rapid delivery of applications in this ever-changing landscape. Yet even the most agile and advanced DevOps teams cannot escape the growing complexity, scale and pace of the modern IT stack.

eCommerce Leader Adopts OnPage

The world’s largest eCommerce site adopts OnPage to streamline its operations and workflows. This news showcases OnPage’s continuous growth in the business-to-business (B2B) space, providing a reliable and secure critical alerting solution for different use cases. In this blog post, I’ll be discussing how the eCommerce juggernaut leverages OnPage’s live call routing capabilities to enhance team communications.

How We Understand Monitoring

I have a confession to make. I was going to use this blog to wax poetically about the flaw inherent in the well-established notion of the Three Pillars of Observability. I was going to argue that a fourth pillar was badly needed: topological metadata. In other words, without annotating each data stream across the three common data types with a pointer to where that data in the deployment topology was coming from, all you have is a lot of data with no chance of making sense of it.

February 2020 Update: Legacy Pager Support, Scheduler User Role, Improved Duty Report and Microsoft Teams Bot

Our first SIGNL4 release tin 2020 includes some great new features. Have a look. For all those who still need to work with pager devices in addition to their smartphone, it is now possible to include this device in the alarm workflow. This might be the case to secure alert delivery even in areas with poor cell coverage. Legcy pager support is provided through a new app we have added to the SIGNL4 app gallery. This apps sends an email to a paging gateway.

How To Decommission A Data Center

The potential for disrupting business is much greater when you decommission a data center than if you’re constructing one. The process involves a lot more than just shutting down servers, turning off switches, and dismantling storage racks. In this article, we’ll consider some of the specifics and best practices required to achieve a smooth decommissioning process.
