In a move recently approved by the CA/Browser Forum, the maximum lifespan for publicly trusted certificates is set to drastically reduce from the current 398 days down to 47 days by March 2029. Importantly, this isn't a distant concern—the move is said to roll out in a phased manner and includes significant intermediate steps starting as early as March 2026, by which time the certificate lifespan will come down to 200 days.
