Since the turn of the century, Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) has been the de facto technology for providing organisations with a robust way of connecting branch offices and important sites like corporate headquarters or private data centres. I joined Grafana Labs as a software engineer in October to help build out a team focused on OpenTelemetry, and within a few weeks, I was promptly encouraged to run for a seat on the OpenTelemetry board. Every year, the OpenTelemetry community holds elections for a few seats on the Governance Committee board, which oversees the project at large. The results of this year’s elections are now available, and I am glad to share that I have been elected to serve on the board!

A number of improvements have been made to the Puppet Report Viewer add-on for Splunk since it was initially released. The most notable changes added in version 3.1 of the add-on are the tracked metrics, allowing for better troubleshooting of performance issues in your Puppet installation.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a wonderful marketing term given to devices that are connected to the internet. Today everything from light switches, air conditioners to door locks have the option of being internet-connected. Now that multiple companies have created “tags” that you can add to anything from keys to cars and packages, anything can be tracked. Across the business, industry, and retail almost every physical component has the option of being internet-connected.

Digital operations management is about harnessing the power of data to act when it matters the most. It’s also about having the right processes and procedures to support teams when every second is critical. Maturing your digital operations takes time, iteration, and commitment. The change won’t happen overnight. But, if you put in the effort, you’ll reap outsized benefits. You’ll be able to learn from incidents and proactively improve your services over time.

For any company working in the cloud or using managed cloud services to create products, cloud costs represent a significant expense.
